Where on earth would we be today without a mobile phone? Yes, the mobile has transformed our lives but is it also taking them over?

The younger you are the harder it seems to live without them. The apparent addiction of teenagers to mobiles, the constant texting, the fear of being without your mobile now has a name: Nomophobia.

Close Up talks to the pyschologist who has studied this phenomenon and Jendy Harper puts it to the test with some of our own teen text queens.

Eleven minutes without a cell phone and we were seeing anxiousness, even anger. Is that typical? Mark Sainsbury puts the scenario to Sydney psychologist Michael Carr-Gregg who has dealt with many clients suffering from nomophobia.

Acid Alkaline Balance (pH)

The Importance of the Acid/Alkaline (pH) Balance of the Body –
The Foundation for Good Health and Wellbeing

Media: Retirement Today Magazine Issue 4 (2009 - 2010)

One of the most important foundations for a healthy body is the correct acid/alkaline (pH) balance.

Without this foundation the body can be vulnerable to a myriad of disease conditions.  An over acidic body can provide a breeding ground for conditions such as Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) which is escalating out of control in the USA and surfacing in New Zealand at an alarming rate, with a 350% increase of reported cases in the last four years.
MRSA is a strain of staph bacteria that’s resistant to the broad spectrum antibiotics commonly used to treat it. Being dubbed the “superbug”, MRSA is the result of decades of excessive and unnecessary antibiotic use.

Staph skin infections are normally found on the skin or in the nose and are generally harmless unless they enter the body through a cut or wound. MRSA can quickly cause a serious, sometimes fatal, widespread infection after entering the body through a cut or scrape. The infection first appears as raised red dots on the skin, resembling pimples or boils. If left untreated it can create pus filled golf ball sized abscesses and infect bones and organs, potentially leading to death.

The antibiotic-resistant superbug, MRSA is very contagious and is easily spread in environments such as hospitals, nursing homes, daycare centres.
The best way to protect yourself from being at risk of contracting MRSA is to keep the pH balance of your body functioning at optimum level which in turn allows your immune system to function competently and thus provide the protection from infection.

The pH level of our internal fluids affects every cell in the body. Maintaining the recommended slightly alkaline pH of human blood at 7.365 is critical to optimal health. Blood with a pH value of 7.15 contains almost 65% more oxygen than blood with a pH of 7.0.

An over acidic body reduces the body’s ability to absorb and utilize nutrients. It reduces energy production within the cells as well as the cells ability to repair and detoxify metabolic waste products. Chronic low level acidosis is believed to be an underlying contributor to such conditions as diabetes, cancer, osteoporosis, rheumatoid and osteo arthritis, heart disease, poor immunity, chronic infections and inflammation and many more chronic and degenerative conditions. In order to maintain the correct pH, as the body becomes acidic, calcium is removed from the bones to help raise the cellular and blood pH to a level where essential chemical processes can continue, resulting in loss of bone density.

If the body maintains an alkalized state, infection, inflammation and disease conditions cannot exist.

Drinking alkaline water helps the body dissolve and eliminate acid wastes and consumed regularly will gradually reduce the amount of accumulated waste products and allow the body to recover health states naturally.
